Here’s some pictures I took riding along the river Isar from Munich to Deggendorf (should have been in the last post…)
Passau
First day of cycling along the Danube river (Donau) from Deggendorf to Passau – many more to come. And this should also be my last day in Germany, expect the next post from Austria.
Munich, Landshut
After spending some very enjoyable days in/around Munich I continued cycling and followed the river Isar downstream to Landshut today. From here it’s another 70km until the Isar meets the Danube (Donau) and I hope to cycle along that river for the biggest part of the way down towards Turkey. I’ll have to keep monitoring the flood situation in Austria and south-east Europe, though.
Here’s some more pics taken during the last few days:
Wutach, Schaffhausen, Bodensee, Alps
I really started to like the routes generated with bikeroutetoaster I used to navigate. They lead me along quite a few paths that I would otherwise have missed or disregarded as not leading very far.
Memory Lane
Thursday was the second day of cycling and it started with a real trip down memory lane. After staying in the village and even right next to the where house I lived over 2 decades ago I rode along the way I used to cycle on an daily basis to school. And next I passed by another house where I lived even earlier. There was an overwhelming feeling of “nothing has changed here” walking around that area. But really that was just me noticing small details that I remembered while a lot actually has changed and looks quite different.
Start
After all the preparations have been finished during the last weeks I started my journey today. Rain started pouring down the minute I started loading my bags (after a morning of sunshine) but i managed to mostly stay dry during the rest of the 65 km trip. It finally led me to the village where i lived over 20 years ago, spending the night at our former neighbors’ house.
Preannouncement
I am currently preparing to start cycling around Europe and Africa. I’ll be leaving early April May 2014 and will be traveling for one year. Checks the maps page for an overview of the planned route. Stay tuned for more info and updates.
